The GRIP TT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Camp & Cultural Retreat is an exclusive martial arts and cultural immersion experience held in Trinidad & Tobago from Monday, May 18th – Monday, May 25th. Organized by Sensei Adam Chin Leung Kam, it's hosted and facilitated by Master Sylvio Behring with Professor Jesse Richardson. This unique trip combines high-level BJJ training with authentic exploration of Trinidadian culture, offering participants a truly unforgettable journey.
Who are the expert instructors leading the camp?
The camp is led by an exceptional team of instructors:
Sensei Adam Chin Leung Kam: Owner and Head Instructor of Budokan – Chin Leung Martial Arts in Trinidad & Tobago. With decades of experience in Karate, BJJ, and MMA, Adam is a pivotal figure in Caribbean martial arts, known for athlete development and promoting structured programs blending technical excellence, discipline, culture, and community.
Master Sylvio Behring: One of the most respected figures in BJJ history, an 8th Degree Black Belt (Coral Belt). A direct student of Flavio Behring, he founded the Sylvio Behring Association (SBA) and is renowned for spreading traditional, pressure-based Jiu-Jitsu globally, mentoring countless world-class practitioners.
Professor Jesse Richardson: A 5th Degree Black Belt under Master Sylvio Behring and a leading instructor within the Behring Jiu-Jitsu system. Known for his exceptional ability to break down complex concepts and strong focus on structure, pressure, and technical clarity, Professor Richardson ensures high-level individual attention and technical refinement throughout the camp.
What can i expect from the accommodation and meals?
The retreat begins at Sweet Lime, an authentic Trinidadian beachfront house in Balandra, on Trinidad’s quiet north-east coast. This intentional choice offers a relaxed, communal, and nature-immersed experience, keeping the retreat high-value and cost-effective. All participants will have their own bed within shared accommodations. In Balandra, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are fully catered with buffet-style local cuisine.
Mid-week, we transition to the Hilton Trinidad & Conference Centre in Port of Spain. Accommodation here is in double-occupancy rooms, with breakfast included. Lunch and dinner while in Port of Spain are at the participant’s discretion, allowing you to explore local culinary options.
What does the daily retreat itinerary look like?
The itinerary is packed with training and cultural experiences:
Mon, May 18th (Arrival & Immersion): Arrive at Piarco Airport, transfer to Sweet Lime, Balandra. Late-night training session focused on movement and camp orientation.
Tue, May 19th (Training & Ocean Therapy): Morning & evening training sessions. Midday visit to Salybia Beach.
Wed, May 20th (Technique & Nature): Morning & evening training sessions. Midday excursion to Rio Seco Waterfall.
Thu, May 21st (City Transition): Depart Balandra, transfer to Hilton Trinidad. Evening training at Budokan. Explore Port of Spain nightlife.
Fri, May 22nd (Culture & Cuisine): Group excursion to Maracas Beach for "Bake & Shark," followed by Paramin Lookout for panoramic views.
Sat, May 23rd (Fight Night Experience): Early morning training at Budokan. Evening VIP experience at CUFF Mixed Martial Arts event, followed by after-party at Fuzion Night Club.
Sun, May 24th (Grappling Showcase): Early morning training at Budokan. Afternoon to witness CHOKE submission-only grappling showcase. Evening for rest.
Mon, May 25th (Departure): Transport back to Piarco International Airport.

How should i prepare for the trip?
To ensure you're fully prepared for the GRIP Trinidad & Tobago Camp, here are some key considerations:
Fitness Level: A moderate fitness level is recommended to comfortably participate in daily training sessions and excursions. Regular physical activity, including BJJ or similar martial arts, will be beneficial.
What to Bring: Pack your Gi, no-gi attire, comfortable clothing for a tropical climate, swimwear, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, high SPF sunscreen), insect repellent, personal toiletries, medications, comfortable shoes, and beach sandals.
Spending Money: Bring local currency for meals at the Hilton (lunch/dinner are at participant's discretion), souvenirs, and any personal purchases.
